July 28 Get Free Friday

Featuring Dancing in Draft and Community Potluck!

(exact activities, offerings & schedule coming soon)

SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT

Are you working on a little something over there? Do you need some eyes on it, a bit of feedback, or even just a deadline to get you motivated? July 28th Get Free Friday features the first-ever, Dancing In Draft! This free-to-all, low barrier showing aims to bring our performance community into conversation to bridge the gaps between our experience as artists. We creatives are often isolated in our pursuits, struggling past writer’s block, or looking high & low for the next opportunity…well here it is! All the details & sign ups at link below.

Want to show something? Here are the details:

  • 5 minute time slots - If you’d like, take a minute to pitch your piece, give context, or request specific feedback

  • Built-in feedback/discussion blocks post-performance

  • Any performance style is welcome! Dance, theatre, poetry, clown, burlesque, comedy

  • We are keeping this simple! No tech, no fancy lights. Just you and the community in the studio to share, discuss, and… EAT! Did we mention there was a potluck after?

DINNER AND A SHOW
Alongside our Dancing In Draft showing, we are hosting a potluck dinner. Some food will be provided, but sign up below if you’d like to bring a dish to share. Be sure to be extra sanitary when cooking. Label all potential allergens, and label your dishes, utensils, etc., that is yours and meant to make it home with you. Plates, napkins, cups will be provided by us.

About Get Free Fridays

We're talking free everything! Get Free Fridays is a community effort led by Dancing Grounds (DG) to reduce the barriers to health and wellness in the St. Claude corridor of Bulbancha. Final Fridays of every month, the Dancing Grounds building will be open to the public for completely free activities… free classes, free plant & book swaps, free gatherings of movement healing, free food, and free spaces to rest.

Get Free Fridays is inspired by the black radical tradition of resisting capitalism by gathering and offering free resources to the community. We are emphasizing the importance of mental and physical wellness, involvement in nature, and developing camaraderie in our neighborhood. As Nelson Mandela said, “To be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”

All scheduled activities are FREE OF CHARGE and open to anyone. There will be a brief check-in form to complete when you arrive. If you plan on taking a free movement class, you can sign-up for that class prior to showing up, though walk-ins are welcome!
